We have a 7 year old water heater that has never been flushed out. Is this something that we should be doing on a regular basis?
There are many plumbers that recommend flushing your water heater once or twice per year. The idea is to flush out an loose sediment that may sit inside of the tank. While this is still considered to be beneficial, it’s not as important as it used to be due to the self cleaning feature that all tanks have.
If you decide to flush out your water heater it’s important to be sure you have let the tank fill up entirely before firing the unit back up. If you don’t open a hot water faucet to allow the air to escape a water heater will not fill up all the way.
