Whirlpool is the main water heater sold at Lowes and is made by Craftmaster. The Whirlpool gas water heater is know for having a flame lockout issue with the gas valve the often leads to having to replace a tank that is not that old.
In all honesty, the biggest problem with Whirlpool is that they are usually installed by people that don’t know what they are doing. These water heater have so many problems within the first few years which can usually be attributed to improper venting or draft.
Another major inconvenience with Whirlpool water heaters is the inability to get parts to make repairs on these units. Lowe’s sells all different types of models, including 6,9, and 12 year models. They don’t however offer any parts such as gas valves, pilot assemblies, burners, or any other parts.
Don’t bother with buying a 12 year model, we have replaced so many of these under warranty with other brands. A water heater warranty is worth almost nothing if you don’t have a plumber that is willing to honor it.
