Our water heater is 11 years old and we were wondering if we should replace it before it ruptures and floods the basement.

Usually we are seeing 12-15 years as the average for new homes less than 25 years old. We usually don’t recommend replacing the unit if it’s still working properly. Most water heaters have a glass liner that starts to seep slowly when it finally fails. If the concrete guys did a good job of sloping down toward the floor drain you probably won’t have much a mess when the water heater leaks.
